August 4, 2013: Expecting a Breakthrough from God
This week, I’m expecting a breakthrough from God. I’m on the verge of getting my apartment, a place where I can create a tranquil atmosphere and let God minister to me. I’ve always dreamed of having an apartment in Jamaica, which I can sublease to tourists or missionaries when I’m back in the USA. Now, I’m ready to live that vision. Let me share a quick poem with you:
A PRAYER OF FAITH by Hannah Kohaus
“God is my help in every need;
God does my every hunger feed;
God walks beside me, guides my way
Through every moment of the day.
I now am wise; I now am true,
Patient, kind, and loving too.
All things I am, can do, and be,
Through Christ the Truth that is in me.
God is my health, I can’t be sick;
God is my strength, unfailing, quick;
God is my all; I know no fear
Since God and love and Truth are here.”
Life has taught me that as we grow, our paths may diverge from those of our childhood friends. The dreams we once shared may no longer align, and that’s okay. When you have a calling from God, it can be challenging for others to understand your journey. You might feel unequally yoked and find yourself constantly defending your choices. God is teaching me that some relationships are tests, and sometimes, standing up for your faith means letting go of friendships or allowing God to shine through you without compromising your values.
One thing I’m learning is the importance of being bold and speaking up. I have certain standards in life that I will not change or compromise. I’m stepping out on faith, looking for an apartment with very little money in my pocket, trusting that God will provide.
I remember when my kids were small, God reassured me:
“Don’t worry about what you will eat, what you will wear, or where you will live.”
My kids are grown now, and that reassurance has never changed. I will forever live by that promise.
